Networked Exhibition

Commissioned by the Myers School of Art (The University of Akron) for an exhibition that kicked off the school’s newest BFA program in New Media. The exhibition featured some very well known players in the Digital Art community. In addition, a good portion of the technology in the exhibition was new to most of the local community.

For this commission we created a local social network inside of the exhibition that allowed people to respond and comment to the work they were encountering along with understand how the show fit into the larger new media community.

A dashboard of data related to the exhibition was rear projected onto the gallery windows. The windows displayed calendar of events surrounding the exhibition, weather forecast, time, recent comments / discussions from inside the gallery, along with a list of people who mentioned the exhibition on Twitter.

All pieces in the show were accompanied by a monitor that served as digital displayed the artist’s statement and more information about the work including dimensions, medium and any further information provided by the artist. The monitor also displayed the last 5 comments people left about the work and invited people to text or e-mail in with questions or join in the discussion.
